The Singapore-to-LATAM performance challenge

Public Internet routing follows carrier policy and available interconnections — not the priorities of a particular business. In the observations used for this network performance study, several Singapore-to-South America paths travelled through North American transit hubs before reaching Brazil, adding distance and latency.

The study objective

Axclusive examined whether an optimised network path from Singapore could reach an AWS endpoint in São Paulo with lower observed latency than selected alternative networks during the same test period—an important consideration for enterprises connecting Singapore with Brazil and the wider South American region

Axclusive’s optimised route recorded a minimum round-trip time of approximately 266 ms between Singapore and an AWS endpoint in São Paulo. The selected global Tier 1 comparator was approximately 60 ms slower , while the highest selected Singapore ISP comparator recorded 351 ms—85 ms higher than Axclusive 

In other words, Axclusive’s measured latency was approximately 24% lower than the highest selected Singapore ISP comparator.

While the measurement does not represent a completed customer deployment, it demonstrates why route selection should be tested before an enterprise accepts the default international path without evaluating its performance. A better-performing path can potentially support:

This is the public version of the study, so comparator names, ASNs and probe IDs are omitted to avoid direct commercial naming. The underlying public results can still be reviewed through the linked RIPE Atlas measurement.

Was this measured from Axclusive’s network?  

Yes. The RIPE Atlas probe was hosted within Axclusive’s Singapore network, so the observed route reflected Axclusive’s production Internet connectivity at the time of testing.

Comparator identities are omitted from this public version, but the underlying results remain available through the linked RIPE Atlas measurement.
